Your change adds up: Operation Round Up program funds seven local charitable projects

The independent TCEC Foundation Board of Directors met on April 13 and disbursed $16,350 to seven local organizations that applied for funds in the first quarter of 2022. The board also elected to donate an extra $10,000 to fire departments in Beaver County due to the grass fire in early April that burned over 20,000 acres.

The organizations and programs funded are listed below.

Goodwell School receives Operation Round Up funds

Goodwell Public School is in the process of implementing a greenhouse to go along with its community garden. Every grade level takes part in this schoolwide project. The TCEC Foundation awarded the project $2500 for the supplies needed for the greenhouse.

About the greenhouse

The greenhouse supplies will consist of various trees, herbs and vegetables. The greenhouse will use hydroponic fertilizers, enabling water cultivation without soil. The greenhouse is a German design that will be able to withstand the Panhandle's winds and storms.

Prairie Elementary STEAM program receives Operation Round Up funds

Full STEAM Ahead is an in-school enrichment program at Prairie Elementary that gives students the chance to learn coding and robotics outside of the classroom. The TCEC Foundation awarded STEAM $2,000 from the Operation Round Up program to put towards robotics kits. TCEC's Giving Funds to Schools (GiFTS) also contributed $1,000 toward STEAM.

Making learning possible: Elkhart Learn & Play awarded Operation Round Up funds

Not every parent is trained to be a teacher. Programs like Elkhart Learn & Play help parents become their child’s first teacher. Operation Round Up, which is funded by TCEC members like you, gave $1,500 for the program in January.

TCEC established Operation Round Up with a mission of giving funds for charitable, educational, or emergency service purposes. Members can voluntarily round their bills up to an even dollar amount, giving them a chance to make a difference in their communities. Though this may seem like small change to an individual, together, it significantly impacts organizations throughout the cooperative’s service area.
