2020 Virtual Poster Contest
Beat The Shock – Safety 1: Danger 0
Brought to you by TCEC

How are your outdoor safety skills? Enter our poster contest. Outdoors is a big place with lots of activity. What do you need to know? Tell others how to stay safe outdoors by creating a poster for the contest.

Some examples of outdoor activities with potential electric hazards:

Check boats and docks for frayed wires. Keep electric appliances 10 feet away from a swimming pool. If you feel an electric current: Call for help. Do not head to the boat or ladders to get out. If someone else shouts for help: Do not jump in. Throw them a flotation device.
If you are in a car accident with a power pole, the safest place is almost always inside the car. Do not leave the car until utility professionals tell you it is safe.
Kites, model airplanes and drones should be flown only during good weather conditions in large open areas, like an open park or a wide field. Keep kites away from overhead power lines or other electrical equipment, such as substations. If a kite gets stuck in a tree near power lines, do not climb up to get it. Electricity can travel down kite strings or wires.
Never climb trees near power lines. Even if the power lines are not touching the tree, they could touch when more weight is added to the branch.
When no longer in use, puncture and deflate balloons before creatively reusing or disposing of them. If a balloon or another toy becomes entangled in an overhead power line, do not attempt to retrieve it.
