Safety a priority in unplanned outage

TCEC takes major outage to prevent wildfire

To prevent the possibility of a wildfire, TCEC took an unplanned outage in the towns of Beaver and Forgan and surrounding areas the afternoon of Sunday, February 18. About 1,900 meters were without power from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. while repairs to were made to the system.

High winds had caused a high voltage line to break and sparks were flying when TCEC crews arrived on the scene. The supervisor on call made the decision to take an outage and safely make the repairs.

TCEC has measures in place to prevent outages but Mother Nature is unpredictable. TCEC members who require power for a medical necessity are encouraged to have a backup plan in place, such as a generator or going somewhere that has a generator.

When outages are planned, TCEC issues notice to affected members in a variety of ways. Automated calls, postcards and social posts are a few of the ways the cooperative puts the word out.
