Boise City area power outages

TCEC explains cause of second power outage.

On Monday, March 12, TCEC planned an outage for the town of Boise City and its outskirts beginning at 9 a.m. The electrical source for the area was moved from an outdated substation to the new Wildcat substation. TCEC has a long-term plan to upgrade and make system improvements throughout its service territory.

At 5:20 p.m., a new substation transformer failed. This caused an unexpected outage for the same area affected by the earlier outage. To avoid a more prolonged outage, the electrical source was reverted to the original configuration.

“We are investigating the failure of the new transformer and working with the manufacturer to determine its cause,” said Lyle Mathis, vice president of Engineering and Operations at TCEC. “Everyone’s patience during both outages is much appreciated. We understand outages are inconvenient and we do all we can to minimize them.”

Members are notified in advance of planned outages when possible and kept informed on Facebook and Twitter during unplanned outages.
